Watchdog probes taxi crash death
A PROBE has been launched after a taxi driver died when his vehicle collided with another car which police were believed to be pursuing.
Grandfather Raymond Tristram, 61, was pronounced dead at the scene of the smash, which happened early yesterday on the B4291, between Glais and Swansea.
The incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) which is investigating.
A spokeswoman for the IPCC confirmed a blue Mazda with two male occupants collided with a taxi travelling in the opposite direction.
She said: “The driver of the taxi was pronounced dead at the scene. The occupants of the Mazda sustained head and leg injuries, which are not thought to be life-threatening.”
She confirmed that both men in the Mazda had been arrested.
“It appears police had been in the process of attempting to apprehend the car with the two passengers in it,” she added.
Mr Tristram’s family have paid tribute to him, saying: “Raymond was a very quiet and caring man.”
