A MINICAB driver who tried to rape a woman in a town centre is being hunted by detectives.

Two women left Bar Demuse, in Nelson Road, Greenwich at 1.20am last Thursday morning and caught a licensed cab driven by a white man with a heavy Merseyside accent.

After dropping the first woman home, the driver returned his silver saloon to Greenwich to drop off the second passenger.

But instead of taking the woman home, he drove past her house and pulled up in Greenwich Church Street, near Bar Demuse, at 1.45am.

The driver, aged in his 40s, of medium build with short brown balding hair, attempted to rape his passenger.

She fought him off and ran home.

Detective Constable Roland Strange, from Bromley Sapphire Unit, said: "The women have been able to give a good description."

If you have any information, call the Sapphire team on 020 8284 8774 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
