A Luton taxi driver has lost his appeal against a Town Hall decision to suspend his licence.

Nazrul Rahman, aged 37, of Rosslyn Crescent, was suspended from working as a cab driver by Luton Borough Council following his arrest for actual bodily harm and conviction for battery on April 17.

On Friday, June 27, Luton magistrates upheld the council decision to suspend Mr Rahman, pending the Taxi And Private Hire Committee meeting to consider whether he is a fit and proper person to continue in his trade.

Councillor Don Worlding, responsible for licensing, said: "Our role is to protect the public and to help keep people safe. Any private hire or taxi driver not behaving in a civil and orderly manner can expect the council to take action against them."

Magistrates ordered Mr Rahman, who appeared in court, to pay £125 towards the council's court costs.
