Police are hunting a gang of thugs who brutally attacked two men in a Preston city centre taxi office after chasing them from a nearby pub.
One of the victims, a 28-year-old man from Ribbleton, remained in hospital on Sunday after his head was stamped on during the vicious assault at around 4am on Saturday.

Police say the two men were repeatedly kicked and punched inside Allied Taxis office on Manchester Road.

They were both taken by ambulance to Royal Preston Hospital.

The 28-year-old was left with severe bruising to his head and has lost a tooth.

The other victim, a 26-year-old also from Ribbleton, suffered a broken arm. He has since been released from hospital.

Police said the pair were chased from The Old Dog Inn on Church Street - a road branded the most dangerous in Lancashire by a senior police officer earlier this year.

A 31-year-old man from Ribbleton has since been arrested and released on bail.

Police are still hunting five others.

Det Con Ian Best, of Preston CID, said: "It was quite a savage attack. One man was arrested but we are tracking the other five.

"It seems there was a dispute in one of the pubs in town on Friday night which spilled out on the streets.

"The two men have then been followed to Allied Taxis. They were punched, kicked and stamped on.

"There were no weapons involved - just feet and hands.

"We are appealing for any witnesses around Allied Taxis at 4am on Saturday to come forward or anybody who knows who these males are."

The attackers have been described as four white and two Afro-Caribbean men aged in their mid 20s to 30s who were all part of the same group.

Some were wearing bomber jackets.

A report recently showed that Church Street has more violent crime and anti-social behaviour than any other street in the county.

In a one-year period, there were 223 incidents of violent crime and 638 reports of anti-social behaviour, making it a virtual no-go area after midnight on certain days.

Call Preston CID on 0845 1 25 35 45 if you have any information on the Saturday's attack or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
