HULL company PayGo Solutions has launched a product designed to reduce attacks on taxi drivers. The business, based on Citadel Way, east Hull, has produced a pay-as-you-go system aimed at ending confrontations over fare prices. The company created the system to combat attacks on taxi drivers in Hull and across the UK.

The product works by asking customers to pay money up front before the driver sets off. A meter displays the amount the customer has put in to both the customer and the driver. Once the fare reaches the amount the customer has paid, the driver can either stop until they put more money in or continued to the final destination depending on how trustworthy they think the customer is.

The unit is bolted into bulkhead of the taxi and the money is contained in a safe in the device. The machine can also identify and reject foreign and counterfeit money. The company launched the system in March this year at the Taxi Talk Magazine trade show in Gateshead. Taxi drivers from as far afield as Hartlepool and Dundee have already shown interest in the product. Hull taxi driver Shaun Snee has been trialing the unit for the last six months.
He said it was a great security feature especially when he was wary of a customer. The unit retails at around £750 or is available on finance at £39.95 per month.
