South Ribble taxi fare hike plan scrapped
Taxi fares in South Ribble will not go up after drivers protested about a planned increase.
Bosses at Leyland Taxis submitted a petition to the council to block the decision of a proposed increase in private hire fares.
South Ribble Council had consulted with the public about raising the cost of journeys for the first time since 2006.
The council's licensing committee had been lobbied by 13 drivers who called for an increase in fares to compensate for rises in fuel costs and insurance.
But the manager of Leyland Taxis, Phil Briggs, organised a petition against the move and the plan was scrapped.
