A taxi driver had burning liquid thrown in his eyes in a Preston estate.

The cabbie, who works for Miller City Taxis, was attacked in Birkett Drive in the Moor Nook estate, on yesterday, just after midnight.

He was waiting to pick up his fare when he asked a teenager standing in an alleyway if he was his customer.

When he opened the driver's side window the youth threw a mystery liquid into his face, burning his eyes.

His attacker then ran off down a nearby alleyway.

A passer-by called the police after finding the taxi driver in his seat covered in a liquid and unable to move following the attack at 12.30am.

He was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital where he received treatment for his eyes before being discharged.

Three youths from the Moor Nook area were arrested in connection with the attack and have been released on bail until mid-May.

Forensic experts were also examining the taxi.

Anyone with information should call Preston police on 01772 203203 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
