POLICE have warned local taxi drivers to keep their cash boxes safe after three were stolen last week.
The first theft happened last Tuesday afternoon (April 8) outside Woolworths in the Highstreet when thieves smashed a taxi window and stole the cabbie’s cash box which was left on the seat.
The same scenario occurred on Thursday night at the Raceview Business Park when thieves managed to make off with another cash box containing £160.
Another one was stolen that same night from a taxi parked in Old Newtown Road despite the box being hidden inside the front door panel.
Thames Valley Police crime reduction advisor, Romy Freiburghaus, suggested that taxi drivers should leave their glove-boxes open when parked to show that there was nothing worth stealing inside.
She also said that nothing should be left on show, including carrier bags full of rubbish, as thieves will break in just to find out what’s inside.
