Teen charged in cabbie robbery
NEWPORT NEWS — A 17-year-old Portsmouth man is charged with robbing a Newport News cabbie.
The teen was arrested Monday afternoon in connection with the March 8 robbery.
In that case, the cab driver stopped in front of a 7-Eleven in Portsmouth to pick up three men and take them to Del Mar Lane. Instead of riding in the cab, two of the suspects reportedly held the driver while the third robbed him of cash and his cell phone.
Investigators are searching for the two other suspects. They’re about 5’10" tall and wore baggie black clothing. One of them had shoulder-length dreadlocks.
Investigators believe they're responsible for a second cabbie robbery four hours later. The suspects hailed a cab in front of the In and Out Store located at Bland and Warwick boulevards. The cab took them to Portsmouth where the driver was robbed in the same manner.
