CHINA launched a new vehicle on the market yesterday - a gold version of the black London Hackney cab.

It was unveiled at the Shanghai car show and guarded by Chinese teenagers in red uniforms and Buckingham Palace-style black bearskin hats.

In a joint venture with British maker Manganese Bronze Holdings, China's Geely Group plan to sell 20,000 taxis a year in the country.

There are also plans for a limousine based on the cab.
