Taxi driver accused of trying to rape girl (16)

A 36-year-old Nelson part-time taxi driver has appeared before Pennine magistrates charged with the attempted rape of a 16-year-old Barnoldswick girl.
Saghir Ahmed, of Rhoda Street, Nelson, is charged with attempted rape and assault by penetration.

Ahmed, who also works at a mill in Read, was remanded in custody and is now due to appear before Burnley Crown Court on June 25th.

The allegations follow an incident in a private hire vehicle in a quiet area near Thornton-in-Craven and Barnoldswick in the early hours of Sunday, March 18th.
