Attack on taxi cost £240
A TEENAGER has been told to cough up the cash after headbutting a taxi.
Hartlepool man Marc Anthony Keenan was ordered to pay for the cost of the damage he caused to a vehicle after headbutting and punching it.
Town magistrates heard that Keenan had been out enjoying a heavy drinking session with his girlfriend when they returned to his home address.
Lilian Atkinson, prosecuting, said Keenan argued with his partner before spotting a taxi that was dropping off passengers in the area.
"He ran towards the taxi and headbutted the bonnet before walking round to the driver's side and kicking the door," she said.
"His girlfriend tried to calm him down and as she did so, the taxi driver went further down the road and phoned the police."
The court heard that Keenan caused dents to the bonnet and the door which cost £240 to repair.
John Relton, mitigating, said: "This is a situation where the defendant has vented his frustration and anger against the motor vehicle."
Mr Relton said that Keenan was trying to find a job and was receiving help from his mother.
Keenan, 19, from Monkton Road, pleaded guilty to criminal damage on February 11.
Chairman of the bench Ian Devonshire fined Keenan £25 and told him to pay £240 compensation.
