Worthing taxi access trial

DISABLED volunteers are needed by Worthing Access and Mobility Group, to test a new transport lifeline.
The organisation has joined forces with West Sussex County Council and the town's taxi drivers, to set up a card scheme to subsidise disabled people's taxi journeys, and needs people of different ages and abilities to take part in the trial.

Taxicard has proved successful in London, and the group believes the scheme could work in Worthing, and encourage the borough council to increase the number of wheelchair-accessible taxis.

Worthing Access and Mobility Group secretary Norah Fisher said: "Accessible taxis are an important resource for disabled people in Worthing – especially when we can't rely on accessible buses being available."

Taxi driver and secretary of Worthing Taxi Drivers' Association Tom Carman said: "It's going to enable users to get out and about a little more and obviously it increases our work volume."

Anyone interested in helping the scheme should contact Mrs Fisher before March 15 on 01903 233472 or email Norah.Fisher@btinternet.com
