Don’t Risk Renewing Late
Despite our efforts, it has been noted that a number of drivers are not renewing on time, and in some cases have continued to drive with a lapsed licence. Please note that if a drivers’ licence has lapsed, it cannot be renewed. Therefore the driver will have to make a new application, including a CRB check, Medical and Knowledge Test. Drivers will be unable to drive until all these requirements have been met.The same applies to lapsed vehicle licences and it is therefore imperative that proprietors renew their vehicle licence prior to expiry. Please consider the safety of passengers and the fact that your insurance cover is void if the vehicle is not licensed.Driving with a lapsed driver or vehicle licence is an extremely serious offence and is likely to lead to a prosecution. It is appreciated that there may be mitigating circumstances as to why a driver has not submitted an application to renew and these will be taken into account when considering the application.Disclosing ConvictionsCRB forms are required from existing licence holders every three years. On occasions these CRB checks reveal convictions which the Council have not previously been notified of. It is essential that drivers notify the Council in writing of any convictions or endorsable / non-endorsable fixed penalties, within 7 days as required by the conditions of licence. No Smoking!Drivers are reminded that smoking in a private hire vehicle or hackney carriage, by any passenger or driver is strictly prohibited at all times.
