POLICE in Birstall are searching for vandals responsible for a string of attacks on taxis and other vehicles.

At about 10pm on Saturday a stick was used to snap a wing mirror off a red Toyota Avensis taxi in High Street, Birstall.

One suspect was a white man, aged between 16 and 18, of medium build, with short blonde hair and wearing a blue and grey striped jumper with dark jeans.

Between 10.15pm and 10.50pm, vandals threw a large stone through the nearside passenger window of a purple Nissan Micra on Lowood Lane in Birstall before running off.

And between 10.30pm and 10.48pm a taxi driver in a red Seat Leon was surrounded by four males while in Fieldhead Lane Birstall.

Dents

They caused damage to the rear light clusters and dents and scuffs to the nearside and offside of the vehicle.

A spokesman from Oakwell Taxis in Birstall said: "Our cars were involved in the incidents. At the end of the day, we are providing a public service and should not be treated like this."

A police spokesperson said: "We realise that taxi drivers are part of a vulnerable profession and they often work in difficult circumstances. Obviously any incident that is reported to us is taken extremely seriously.

"Clearly we are keen to trace those responsible for these incidents."
